it isn't often that we get to pull out the rain gear around here in San Diego! One of my pet peeves are finding sweaters or coats for large Dogs!
The coat Weslia is wearing says X-Large but we can clearly see this 70 lb Shepard needs something else! To get a proper fit measure from the top of the shoulder to the tail. Once you do that and look through the many sites with #petraingear you are going to blink at what is referred to as X-Lrg! 19-24 inches is normal for a Shepard. By the time you secure the body fasteners of the coat or poncho the length required is now 3 " longer making her proper size a XX-XXX Lrg. Make sure you get a coat that has wide adjustable Velcro fasteners around the girth as well as adjustable front and back adjustable leg straps so it stays in place all down the back and doesn't slide around the neck. PRICING The samples I've found are made in other countries and the quality isn't very good. My favorite shopping site for Large Dog Coats is http://www.BaxterBoo.com. The prices and sizes are true to breed sizing and secure comfortably without knotting up in the under belly area. The prices and styles vary from Reflective Ponchos to Blanket style. These range from $20-$50.00 and are made in America. Help keep your big breed dry and comfortable this winter with the proper fit. It can mean the difference between a pleasant walk in the rain or a wet one! If you got value out of this blog post please leave me a comment, I would like to hear about your experiences buying large rain coats, or any size really for your pups. Woofs & Wags, Kate Today I'm wrapping my head around the plight of the Shelter Pets and what I can do to help them. Compelled to do what I can to make a difference for these sweet souls cast aside due to no fault of their own I've decided to join the group fundraising effort, Walk For Animals at Kit Carson Park .
A few years ago Pawtails began putting our efforts to raise community awareness for the San Diego Humane Society and the many programs they sponsor San Diego Humane Society. The best way we can all support their good works and make a splash, a dent, and a difference for the pets they take in at the local shelter/campuses is through the fundraising events. Next weekend, February 25, 2017 me and my team will be walking in the #WALKFORANIMALS2017 at Kit Carson Park. Our team goal is $2,500.00 and my personal goal is $500.00. If you would like to join me and my team please check out my pledge page here on this link and get excited about making a difference for those voiceless pets awaiting their fur-ever home. Click here to go to my page. http://bit.ly/2lvKAGx Thank you for your support! The pets appreciate the loving gifts you share to help them survive and thrive. If you have any questions or would like to join me you can always reach me at 858-603-9925. Woofs, Wags, and Meows, Kate ![]()

We never want to our loving companion stranded with out an advocate. ![]() Meet Cooper, he's an AKC registered Wheaten Terrier and a very docile, easy going guy for an Adult and not a good candidate for kids. What do you do when you feel you must re-home your Dog or Cat ? You've tried everything, including training and it's just not a good fit? You want to begin the process of interviewing the next best candidate and you want to insure they fill out contracts and agree to site visits prior to handing over your Dog! The heartache is real for many humans facing this decision and I want to insure their Furry Friend is moving to a safe and loving new home. 1. Always insist on Contractual relinquishing, no exceptions, ever! 2. Insist on a back-ground check, always. 3. Do a site visit, always. A Note From Cooper's Human, Michelle: Cooper is a gorgeous purebred AKC registered #WheatenTerrier needing a new home. Cooper is completely house trained, well behaved and knows many commands like sit, stay, heel, come. His trainer is willing to be of some assistance to his next owner to ease them into the transition. He is extremely loyal and loving, he enjoys playing with his toys and going for walks. Cooper needs a very special home, as he can become protective of his home and people. Because of his protective issues Cooper will not be placed into a home with children. His ideal home would be an experienced dog owner, living in a home without a lot of visitors . Cooper is only 2 1/2 years old , very laid back and happy to be comfy curled up in a couch or on his bed . If you think Cooper would be a good match for you please reach out to me and we can plan a meeting! Most families will plan their travel 6-9 weeks ahead to get the best seats and travel times. The same holds true when planning for your Pet's care while you are away. The minute you book your air flights, the next thing you need to book is your Thanksgiving Pet Sitting. Many of my regular clients call me year round with only a few day's notice, which is usually manageable. Last year Thanksgiving was bustling. The leashes where set on hustle and fun, over drive at times. My greatest concern is turning away those loyal clients because I'm already booked. The most important consideration for your fur-babies while your off to Grandma's house is who's gonna love them, feed them and nurture them while you're away? You're Pets do know you are gone and they don't know you're coming home. Keeping them loved, comforted, exercised and pampered helps while they await your return. One of the other benefits of a professional Pet Sitter in your home is that it never looks like you're away! Here are some other action items to add to your 'to-do' list before you go away from home: • Make your home look occupied, & make it difficult to break in. • Lock all outside doors & windows before you leave the house or go to bed. Even if it is for a short time, lock your doors. • Leave lights on when you go out. If you are going to be away for alength of time, connect some lamps to automatic timers to turn them on in the evening and off duringthe day. • Don't allow daily deliveries of mail, newspapers or flyers build up while you are away. Arrange with the Post Office to hold your mail, or arrange for a friend or neighbor to take them regularly. • Arrange for your lawn to be mowed if you are going away for an extended time. • Check your locks on doors and windows and replace them with secure devices as necessary. • Push-button locks on doorknobs are easy for burglars to open. Install deadbolt locks on all your outside doors. • Sliding glass doors are vulnerable. Special locks are available for better security. • Other windows may need better locks. Check with a locksmith or hardware store for alternatives. Don't Tempt a Thief: • Always lock your garden sheds and garages. • Use curtains on garage and basement windows. • Never leave notes on your door such as “Gone shopping.” Locks…Get the Best: • No lock, regardless of its quality, can be truly effective. Key-in dead bolt locks provide minimum security. Ask a locksmith for advice on your situation. • Change locks immediately if your keys are lost or stolen. • When moving into a new home, have all locks changed. Targeting the Outside: • Have adequate exterior lighting. A motion-sensitive light is recommended for backyards. • Trim trees and shrubs so that they cannot be used as hiding places for intruders. • Make sure your door hinges are on the inside. Having an attentive Pet Professional staying with your Pet(s) in their own home gives them a calm, one-on-one connection with familiar home patterns and scents. They know you're gone but being at home does make a huge difference for them. You can never book your Thanksgiving Pet Sitting too early. My clients have called and booked as early as the May! Don't wait, call and book now. Peace of mind comes with a solid plan with your reliable, licensed, bonded, and insured Pet professional. If you have a trip coming up, set up your travel plans now. Hold a Meet and Greet with your Pet Sitter, if you have any questions about how to make a good selection for your needs I always say 'trust your gut'! It doesn't matter if you get a weird pang, don't dismiss it, your gut level is usually spot on! Every professional has references, is licensed, bonded, insured, a great communicator, is Pet CPR & 1st Aid Certified and is 100% Petcentric. Ask them for their references, and check them out! Caring for your pet isn't an after thought, it's a first focus for a pro. Creating 'happy staycations for you and your Pet' is what we do best.
