Protect your Paws from the Heat!

 Excessive Heat Advisory for San Diego and much of Southern California for the next 6 days means  immediate shifts to dog walking.  Finding time early morning of later in the evening  to walk the paws with potty breaks and indoor games mid-day to reduce exposure to the heat.  Our pets are counting on us to know when to pivot and shift routines to keep us safe.  You can get booties to protect the paws but don't use them with a false sense of safety. Paws burns and excessive heat exposure are killers.

The temperatures listed below will help you know the pain your pups are experiencing when being asking to walk or run.  It could kill them, and or burn their feet/paws.

7 Second Rule:  Place the back of your hand on the surface for 7 seconds. 
IF it’s too hot for your hand, it is too hot for the paws!  

Know the signs of Heat Exhaustion:

1. Vigorous Panting
2. Elevated Heart Rate
3. Excessive Salivation, sometimes thickened
4. Vomiting
5. Diarrhea
6. Weakness
7. Staggering
8. Gasping
9. Brick Red Gums, or purple, or blue
10. Lying Down refusing to get up
